This paper efforts in understanding of cracking mechanism and quality control in construction process. Investigation of semi-rigid base layer and subbase layer of highway pavement in Lang-Chuan Highway are recorded. Considering the field condition of highway route in cold, wetland plateau environment and contraction practice of cement-treated subbase and base courses, construction techniques to mitigate the development of cracking are proposed such as material selection, quality control of aggregate, mix design, construction process and uniformity of mix, climate condition, curing requirements and traffic control.
