In cargo transportation between Europe and Asia, `balance lines' in international freight and incidentals is a concept describing rational choices for shipping by freight over land or by ocean. Many factors cause warping in these balance lines, especially the lack of a comprehensive intercontinental rail cargo agreement. The balance lines of international freight and incidentals are thus relevant to a new comprehensive Eurasia railway cargo transportation convention. Taking balance lines into consideration could benefit trade between many countries. Although a long-term objective, the balance lines of international freight and incidentals should be pursued by European, Asian, and North African countries.
