This research focuses on the design of container transship network and the optimization of routes structure and mode choice for both of the shippers and carriers. Such decisions will subsequently influence port group layout, such as the location of hub ports and transit terminals. Therefore a port choice model is proposed according to the optimization of container transship network, which is designed specially for genetic algorithms. This approach can give an approximate solution to the network and can be accepted by the port planners. The result can be used to design the carriers' route choice in the international container transport market.
