This study presents a newly-developed loading amplitude model capable of considering the non-uniform pressure distribution between the tire and the pavement surface. The considered loading simulates the continuous movement of the tire on the pavement surface. A three dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) parametric study was conducted to quantify the viscoelastic pavement responses to different tire loading configurations. This includes dual and wide-base tires. The loading was simulated at three pavement temperatures (5, 25, and 40 degrees C) and two speeds (8 and 72 km/hr). The analysis considers the effect of moving wheel loading amplitude type as well as the total cumulative time loading. When compared to field results, the continuous loading amplitude model was found to better resemble pavement loading than the widely-used trapezoidal hammering amplitude model. This is especially evident in the transverse, longitudinal, and compressive strains at intermediate and high temperatures as well as at slow vehicle speed.
