Work is well underway on the fully automated, driver-less (but manned by train stewards) 21 kilometer Copenhagen Metro. The system consists of three lines. 2002 will see the start of Copenhagen's new Metro. This will be the line between Nørreport in the centre of Copenhagen and Lergravsparken and Ørestad on the island of Amager southeast of the city centre. The second phase from Nørreport to Vanløse west of central Copenhagen via Frederiksberg will open in May 2003. There will be 34 trains, each with 3 walk-through cars, 6 doors on each side, 100 seats with a capacity of approximately 300 passengers per train.
