The pure electric vehicle (PEV) is considered as one of the most eco-friendly automobiles, as it takes batteries for its energy source and hardly produces pollution. In this paper, properties of motors and batteries and their influence on the drive process are discussed at first. On the other hand, the regenerative braking system of electric vehicles is introduced. Its ability to increase the battery level is limited by the rotation characteristic of the generator and the charging performance of batteries. To validate the effects of motors (generators) and batteries on the acceleration and deceleration processes, the actual acceleration and electric power with different vehicle speeds, desired acceleration and deceleration, motor, and batteries are tested. Results show that the more mechanical power a motor and batteries can provide, the bigger acceleration will be achieved by the electric vehicle. Besides, the increase of battery level is significantly influenced by the generator and battery charging properties.
