As humankind strives to learn more about our universe, the efficiency of crew members on space flights is very critical. A problem that poses a threat to efficiency is the space adaptation, syndrome, commonly known as space sickness. Most researchers believe that the vestibular system is what mainly causes the space sickness. The sickness may result from the lack of gravity-s pull on the otolith crystals in the inner ear. Scientists are not able to predict who is susceptible to space sickness because most experiments conducted on Earth do not tell the researchers who is prone to getting sick. This is because sometimes those that get sick during the experiments seem fine in microgravity, whereas others that are fine on Earth seem to get very sick in space. So far, scientists have no way of stopping space sickness, but they do have drugs that can alleviate the symptoms. However, most of these drugs have negative side effects. Once scientists can stop space sickness, space crews will work more efficiently during a flight, and space technology will advance faster.
