Chart-sheet design is a principal part for chart production. In order to overcome the troubles of heavy workload and inefficiency caused by manual chart design currently, an automatic chart-sheet design based on the basic chart-sheet principles and general methods has been put forward under the quantitative math algorithms. According to the different given elements (chart-sheet size, chart scale, latitude of reference and geographical area); the automation of chart-sheet design has been realized concerning various possible conditions. Practice proves that the computer-aided subdivision enhances the design efficiency and precision; it also accelerates the automatic development of whole chart design, and brings more advantages in safe navigation.
