In some urban old areas, there are many malformed intersections with multiple forks. As urban traffic increases, it is crucial to improve the LOS (level of service) at these intersections, in which traffic jams often occur. This paper takes a typical five-way malformed intersection in China as an example to analyze traffic flow lines and traffic conflict points. In order to improve the LOS, this paper proposes corresponding improvement schemes based on conflict theory. Finally, based on the VISSIM software, the traffic flow state of the intersection before and after the implementation is simulated. In this paper, the vehicle average delay time and the average queue length are used as the evaluation indicators of the intersection LOS. The simulation results show that the proposed two strategies can effectively improve the intersection level of service.
