A Mach 2 experimental supersonic cavity is simulated using a novel dynamic hybrid Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes/large-eddy simulation modeling framework. The model is extended to include multispecies transport and diffusion and is coupled to an advanced low-dissipation numerical scheme. The simulations correspond to a series of experiments for which particle image velocimetry measurements of two velocity components were made within the cavity, as well as fuel concentration measurements. Results are presented and compared with experimental measurements and to simulations made using the improved delayed detached eddy simulation model. The current model is able to predict mean and fluctuating quantities in a manner more consistent with the experiment, suggesting potential improvement over more traditional hybrid models.
